Yummiest? . . Is that a word?  I highly doubt it.  But what I do have to say is I ran into Smash Burger on Roseville Parkway, just east of Galleria Blvd and across the street from The Fountains at Roseville.  What an amazing place to eat.  Ok for a burger joint.  So let me just say I’m not always the healthiest of eaters, and the day I get that completely (87% at least) under control, will be glorious.  Enough about the fact that I had a cheeseburger for lunch. I would sure like to think I’m not alone here.  Today was a great day at the start.  Woke up feeling great, had an idea of how far I was going to run.  I ate all the right things and prepared myself for the run with proper hydration, dynamic stretching and some pumped up music.  All was going great, and then I hit the 1 mile marker . . in itself that was not a big deal, but as I switched my iPhone to the opposite hand (as I do traditionally at every mile) I hit the done button on my Nike+ running app. . . ImageToday was the Run 4 Mercy 5k run at Maidu Park.  I woke up and felt great. I ate all the right things for breakfast and mentally prepared myself for the race to come.  I used the new stretching technique (new to me) that I found the other day on Runner’s World magazine’s website.I warmed up before the race plenty.  The tension was building as this would be my first race in my new hometown.  The siren went off and the pace I started with was much faster than I was used to.  I held to it pretty well for the most part and finished the race 6th in my age group and 28th overall out of more than 600 runners.  27:07 was my time, and it is my fastest 5k ever.  The weather was a perfect 76 degrees with a slight breeze, the park setting was wonderful.  All in all it made for one heck of a first race.. . .First of many more I am sure.

On this never ending road to better health and fitness (and yes I have accepted the fact that this is a lifestyle, and not a temporary activity to reach the goals I have set) I find that I need more and more information regarding the wonderful world of running.  Now I know one could argue, ‘Can’t you just go out and run?’  (more…)

What another wonderful evening in Roseville, CA.  It was downtown on Vernon Street that I encountered yet another event, this was called Food Truck Mania.  As I approached the street the all too familiar smell of BBQ Burgers, hot-dogs and pulled pork meat overwhelmed me and my family.  What I found unique was the fact that all the food vendors indeed had trucks (Or in a couple cases vans) fitted with kitchens where the food was made to order, piping hot and fresh.  My step-son opted for the hot-dog from Dave’s Dawgs, while I enjoyed an incredible cheeseburger from The Squeeze Inn.  My wife stopped at A Dash of Panache and got an iced salted caramel mocha.  There was a live band and a sneak peek of Sammy Hagar’s new restaurant Sammy’s Rockin’ Island Bar and Grill.  It’s a nice 4 mile jog to hit downtown Roseville, and I’ll gladly do it again.

Since moving to Roseville, CA I have been completely consumed by the many places to explore.  Much like anything new, there are lots of things to see and lots of things to do.  Running has long since been a passion of mine and so I thought I would combine my love of running with the excitement of discovering new places to eat, shop and connect with interesting people.  I live here, I work here and I absolutely love it here.
